In a Dugout exclusive, Liverpool striker Divock Origi discusses the best advice he has ever received and what he would say to a youngster starting out in the game.

“I like to speak with more experienced people, with the staff, the manager and get a lot of advice,” Origi explains. “But from a young age I always remember that talent is good but hard work beats talent.

“In the younger ages, maybe you can rely more on your talent but when you get older you see that when you combine it with hard work you can get everything out of your potential and that’s what I’m striving to do - to get everything out of my potential.”

The 21-year-old Belgium international has become a fan favourite at Anfield, even scoring in five consecutive appearances for Liverpool earlier this season. But he is eyeing further improvement.

“You can improve in every stage of your career and even in training, after training analysing your game, you can do a lot of stuff to make steps and that’s also a major point of becoming a top player,” he adds.

“Liverpool is a top club so it demands also top players and everybody who is here is talented but the ones who make it to be great here like [Steven] Gerrard, they always have this little plus, extra.

“Never stop believing in yourself, play with your qualities. You always have to keep making steps. Progress is everything, the big players every season they become a new player, they learn and they learn, that’s the key.”
