Liverpool midfielder Emre Can reveals that manager Jurgen Klopp has remained positive despite a poor run of form

Emre Can thinks Liverpool proved they are still contenders in the Premier League this season with their performance against Chelsea on Tuesday.

Having started the year in second, the Reds have slipped down to fourth in the table after failing to win in the league in January.

But they came from behind to draw 1-1 against Chelsea and avoid a fourth straight defeat at Anfield in all competitions.

"It was a good sign for us," Can told Sky Sports. "We are still here. You could see that in the game, and see how strong we are. It was a very intense game, with a high tempo."

The Reds looked to be Chelsea's closest title rivals a month ago, but their results in January have seen them fall 10 points off top spot.

"We will learn a lot from it and come back stronger," said Can about their dip in form.

"It was a tough time when you lose three in a row at home, but we stayed positive. It doesn't give you a lot if you think too much about previous games.

"Maybe we spoke a little more and had more meetings, but the manager is always positive and wanted to help us in that period. We have to stick together."

Reflecting on Liverpool's target for the season, Can said: "We want to play in the Champions League next year, that has to be our target. We have 15 games to go and we will see from game to game what happens.

"There are a lot of good teams and a lot of games, so a lot can happen. You have to watch from game to game. Top four would be a good season."
