Daniel Sturridge will return home from Liverpool's mid-season training camp in La Manga early due to a virus.

The 27-year-old striker linked up with his team-mates in Spain earlier this week, but will head back to Merseyside early after his condition did not improve.

The club reported Sturridge was eager to take part in the squad's daily double sessions while they prepare for their next game on February 27 against Leicester City, but will now resume training at the Melwood base once he is fully recovered from illness.

Sturridge has made just two substitute appearances in Liverpool's last five Premier League games and is without a goal for the club since scoring in the 2-2 draw with Sunderland on January 2.
