Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool's situation is getting serious, and that both himself and the squad are playing for their future.

Liverpool stumbled again at Leicester on Monday Night Football, going down 3-1 against the resurgent champions following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri.

The Reds have won just two of their 12 games in all competitions since the turn of the year, and fallen 14 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, and Klopp insists performances have simply not been good enough.

The German said after the latest defeat: "It's getting more serious now. We all play for our future, myself included. We get judged every day, especially on match days.

"Of course performances have influence on these things. I don't think they aren't as good as I thought, but I think they need my help more to show it every week.

"I feel maximum responsible because I am. I hope I use the word 'we' and not 'they' because I'm involved in this.

"It doesn't get better. It was not good enough in the beginning, not good enough in the middle and in the end. It was 100 per cent clear what happened with Leicester tonight. Back to their roots, their line-up was clear."

Klopp said his players had been told to expect an "emotional" display from Leicester and said there was no excuse for the passivity of their display.

"It was clear how emotional the game was because if Leicester didn't show emotion it would be really strange. It wasn't that intense but we weren't ready for this," he added.

"We could have done much better. We let them be the Leicester of last year - that's our fault. We should get criticised. This inconsistency makes absolutely no sense.

Jamie Carragher was critical of Liverpool's defence on Monday Night Football

"It's not the moment to make assessments like this, especially not in public. But to say the truth, and I try to say the truth as often as possible, bad performances don't help anybody, that's clear."

Liverpool were without captain Jordan Henderson due to a bruised foot and Klopp said the England midfielder was unlikely to be fit to face Arsenal at the weekend.
