UEFA has charged Spartak Moscow with racist behaviour after their Youth League match against Liverpool on Wednesday.
Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Youth League group stage match in which Rhian Brewster had to be dragged away by Liverpool team-mates and staff at the final whistle after being reportedly upset by what was said to him by one of the Russian team's defenders.
A UEFA statement named Spartak player Leonid Mironov in the charges against the club. According to UEFA regulations, Mironov faces a ban of "at least 10 matches or a specified period of time".
On Wednesday Liverpool told Sky Sports News that "the club have followed the proper procedure by reporting the alleged incident to UEFA".
A UEFA statement said: "Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Youth League group stage match between Liverpool FC Youth and FC Spartak Moskva Youth (2-0), played on December 6 in England.
"Charges against FC Spartak Moskva: Racist behaviour - player Leonid Mironov - Article 14 of the Disciplinary Regulations.
"The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body with the date of the hearing yet to be confirmed."
Earlier this season another Liverpool youth player - Bobby Adekanye - was the victim of racist chants and gestures from Spartak supporters during the game in Moscow.
UEFA found Spartak guilty and punished the club with a partial stadium closure for their next UEFA Youth League fixture.
