Liverpool's Mohamed Sissoko hopes to become better than Patrick Vieira
Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has stated his ambition to become a better player than boyhood hero Patrick Vieira.Sissoko's manager Rafael Benitez has already compared his summer signing to the former Gunner in style, all long legs and crunching tackles, but the 20-year-old from Mali has insisted he is not there yet.
"He is well established and has proved to everyone over the years that he is a great player. He has been my idol," said Sissoko.
"However, I am young as a player and one day I would like to think I'd be considered better than him."
Sissoko faces massive competition at Liverpool in order to break into the first team on a permanent basis, with Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Dietmar Hamann all ahead of him in the central midfield pecking order, but the African player is certain he has chosen the right club.
"Liverpool was my first choice given that Rafa Benitez was the coach. I had worked with him before so in the end I didn't have to think twice," said Sissoko, who played under Benitez at Valencia.
The combative midfielder grew up without many home comforts with 14 brothers and sisters, including 17-year-old Ibrahim Sissoko at West Brom, and believes that his background has shaped his tenacious attitude on the pitch.
Based on his impressive performances for Liverpool so far, it would be difficult to dispute that Sissoko is one to watch in future.
