Robbie Fowler has hailed the Liverpool signing of Christian Benteke and tipped the striker to be a success at Anfield as he "ticks every box".
Benteke sealed a £32.5m transfer from Aston Villa on Wednesday and is expected to make his debut in the pre-season friendly against HJK Helsinki in Finland on August 1.
The 24-year-old said he was convinced to join Liverpool after a chat with manager Brendan Rodgers and immediately set his sights on winning trophies.
Anfield hero Fowler, who scored 183 times in 369 appearances for the club over two spells, is fully expecting Benteke to bring goals to Rodgers’ team and thinks he will benefit the squad as a whole.
"He’s strong, he can hold a ball up, he’s quick, he’s mobile, has two good feet," Fowler said. "So we are expecting a few goals and we are expecting for him to bring other players into the game.
"He probably ticks every box, if I’m being honest.
"With the players that we have signed like Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge still to come back and Philippe Coutinho, they will thrive because we have got a centre forward now who is probably not going to drop into the spaces that these players thrive on. I am excited about him."
Fowler was speaking at a Liverpool Foundation event in Kuala Lumpur as part of the club’s pre-season tour.
