Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has been ruled out of action for “three or four weeks” with a hamstring injury, manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.

The Welshman limped off during last weekend’s friendly against Swindon Town.

Speaking on the injury, Rodgers said: "He'll probably miss three to four weeks, which is disappointing. He certainly won't be available for the weekend."

However, there was some positive news on the return to fitness of Daniel Strurridge, who could return to first-team action in a few weeks.

The striker underwent surgery on his hip in the United States in May, and his rehabilitation has gone well.
