Arsenal have paid tribute to a 90-year-old supporter who was killed in an accident on his way to the Emirates Stadium.

Ernie Crouch was blown against the side of a bus in high winds in Finchley, north London, as he travelled to Saturday's home game against Sunderland.

A supporter since childhood, Mr Crouch was still attending home and away games, and Arsenal tweeted: "Everyone is saddened to learn of the passing of Ernie Crouch. May he rest in peace."

Pat Hale of the Arsenal Supporters Club earlier told the BBC: "He travelled to every away game with us and always had his regular front seat.

"It is going to be very upsetting next Sunday morning [Arsenal play Aston Villa away] to get on the bus and he won't be there.
