Mesut Ozil has been named Germany national team player of the year for 2015.

The Arsenal midfielder had won the award, which is voted for by German fans, three times in a row before losing out to Toni Kroos in 2014.

However, more than 51,000 fans voted for Ozil this year, giving him 45.9 per cent of the vote, and placing him well ahead of Bayern Munich's Thomas Muller (15.9 per cent) in second place.

The German World Cup winner has been vital in guiding Arsenal to the top of the Premier League this season and is well on course to beat the assists record set by Thierry Henry in 2002/03.

German magazine kicker had previously labelled Ozil as the best "German abroad".
