Aaron Ramsey left shocked by fans' banner urging Arsene Wenger to quit

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has revealed his shock at the banner held up after the 4-0 FA Cup win over Hull that urged boss Arsene Wenger to quit.

Wenger is bidding to become the first post-war manager to lead his side to three straight FA Cup triumphs, but has incurred the wrath of a section of Arsenal fans because of their faltering Premier League campaign.

Last week's 2-2 draw with Tottenham left them three points behind their rivals and eight behind leaders Leicester with nine games to go, prompting some fans to unfurl a banner at Hull on Tuesday that read: "Arsene, thanks for the memories but it's time to say goodbye."

Ramsey, who suffered a torn thigh muscle in the game that has ruled him out of action for four weeks, told The Sun on Sunday: "It shocked me. I didn't see the banner at the time because I was injured and went straight down the tunnel.

"The lads weren't talking about it because the same sentiments have been expressed before. To think that an Arsenal fan has taken the trouble to bring that to a game does shock me.

"You see the amount of managers who get sacked these days - a few bad results and they're under pressure. But Arsene Wenger has handled it before and come out of it and I'm sure he'll do so again.

"I think the frustration is there because it's Leicester at the top of the Premier League and the so-called bigger teams aren't.

"Everybody sees this season as an opportunity missed. This squad is good enough to win the league. On our day we can beat anybody."
