Sean Dyche says Arsene Wenger's record unlikely to be matched

Burnley boss Sean Dyche believes it is almost inconceivable that any future top-flight manager will reign as long as Arsene Wenger.

Dyche will mark his 200th game in charge of the Clarets on Sunday when they face Arsenal, live on Sky Sports.

But his longevity pales into insignificance when held up against that of his Gunners counterpart, with Wenger the longest-serving active boss in British football having taken charge in October 1996.

Dyche holds the Frenchman in high esteem and believes his record will stand the test of time, given the cultural changes in the game over the last decade which make patience and prudence a much less admired asset.

The Burnley manager said: "I think football often mirrors life and you want it all quicker, you want it delivered yesterday, you want it cheaper, you want it throw-away, you want to get bored with it and move on.

"Football has become a bit like that as regards managers, so I think it is unlikely that you will last that long, and the ones that do last that long will do so because they have a lot of success.

"I don't think there are any regrets - everyone gets the realities of it and they accept it's part and parcel of the job. But I just think it's unlikely that that length of time at any one club is going to be the norm."

Dyche regards Wenger, along with Sir Alex Ferguson, as one of his key managerial inspirations and admits it is no coincidence that certain parallels can be drawn between the Gunners' approach to the business of football and the outlook at Turf Moor.

"I think some of the principles we look at as a whole club are similar," added Dyche. "Arsene has tried to run it as a business and a football team on both levels, and the business model he has achieved is absolutely incredible."
