Mertesacker is about to kick off his final season in the professional ranks, beginning with the Friday Night Football date with Leicester City.

The Germany international will retire at the end of 2017-18 and take charge of the Premier League club's academy.

Mertesacker had to miss almost all of last season with a knee injury but he was able to return in time to feature in their FA Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley.
