Olivier Giroud is ready to restate his credentials as Arsenal's top centre-forward, starting at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Giroud lost his spot to Theo Walcott for May's FA Cup final but was preferred in attack last weekend as Arsene Wenger's side opened up their Premier League campaign with a home defeat to West Ham.

That shock result will be a learning experience, according to Giroud, who scored 19 goals last season despite three months out with a broken leg.

His scoring record has not stopped widespread speculation in Spain and England - dismissed as "media talk" by Wenger - linking Arsenal with Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.

But a confident Giroud said: "I showed great mental strength last year and I had good stats.

"I always try to improve myself and I feel with the team, so yes, I am sure I can bring something more to the team and to my team-mates."

Arsene Wenger says Danny Welbeck is three weeks away from selection, and the Arsenal boss expects Jack Wilshere to return from injury sooner than expected.

The Super Sunday trip to Selhurst Park is Arsenal's chance to restore some of the optimism around during a pre-season which brought victory at the Emirates Cup and in the Community Shield.

Giroud said: "Unfortunately we have made mistakes - we will learn from them and try not to do it again. We can succeed to play our game, we want to bounce back on Sunday.

"When you want to win the league it is always a mix of skill and mental quality, technique and tactical. You cannot win the league without mental strength, and I think we have got it in our squad."
