The Saints legend explains who makes his XI...

David de Gea (£8m)

Manchester United had the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League last season and that is only going to improve under the master of 1-0 wins, Jose Mourinho.

Virgil van Dijk (£8.1m)

You need defenders that score goals in your team and Van Dijk ticks that box. He scored plenty in Scotland and continued to do so for Southampton last season.

Ashley Williams (£7.3m)

He got a couple as well last season and looks value for money if he moves to Everton, who will surely be better at the back under Ronald Koeman.

Calum Chambers (£7m)

Here's another one where I'm trying to save some money by second guessing managers. If Gabriel's injury is as bad as feared then Chambers looks in line to start the season in an Arsenal defence that kept more clean sheets than any other side last season.

Cedric Soares (£7m)

I know what you're thinking, 'another Southampton player', but he's a steal at £7m given how well this defence did last season. They also settled after a campaign together and he obviously had a very good Euros with Portugal as well, so I'm expecting him to have a good season.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£10.5m)

He had an outstanding 2015/16 for Dortmund and I think he'll provide Manchester United with the creativity they lacked last season. They've got plenty of attacking options for him to supply so I'd imagine he'll provide plenty more goals and assists.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£8m)

I'm looking forward to seeing this lad in a Southampton shirt. He's a fantastic passer and will hopefully provide a lot of creativity to both my side and Claude Puel's.

Jordon Ibe (£8.2m)

He's my gamble pick. I'm assuming he'll go straight into the Bournemouth side given the amount of money they've spent on him and hopefully he'll reward the faith shown in him by Eddie Howe and myself!

Romelu Lukaku (£12m)

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has been hugely impressive on loan at Everton and West Brom

I've tipped him up at as my Sky Bet each-way bet to be top goalscorer in the hope that he'll join Chelsea. Even if he doesn't, he's proved he can score goals in the Premier League and is still developing.

Sergio Aguero (£13m)

He's the man to beat for the Golden Boot. The big question is whether he can stay fit for the whole season. If he can put his injury problems behind him then he's guaranteed to score goals.

Shane Long (£10.4m)

With Graziano Pelle gone he's going to get a lot more game time and has hopefully he can step up and have a really prolific season for us.
