Ronald Koeman has likened his approach to Mauricio Pochettino's, but admits Everton are at least a season behind Tottenham.

Everton will head to White Hart Lane on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1 HD, looking to continue their nine-match unbeaten run.

Spurs sat second in the Premier League ahead of this weekend's top-flight fixtures and are looking to close the 10-point gap on leaders Chelsea, and Koeman is looking to continue along a similar line at Everton.

Koeman, who succeeded Pochettino at former club Southampton, said: "The manager at Tottenham is doing a great job because everybody understands it's really difficult to give that competition to the big teams in the Premier League and now for the second season in the row they fight for the Champions League.

"Last season they fought until the last part of the season to win the title and they signed long-term contracts with good players, with young players.

"In several aspects they play the football that we like to in our team. They try to do high pressing, we like to do high pressing, they have individually very good players between the lines and offensive full-backs, and trying to bring young players into the team.

"Yes it's a little bit similar what we like to do. It's not our second or third season, it's our first, but we are in a good way to move forwards and to change things and to make sometimes difficult decisions."

Harry Kane and Dele Alli are among the names tied to long-term contracts at Tottenham, who will also move to their new 61,000-seater stadium in 2018, and Koeman has backed the club to compete for multiple trophies.

"They are one of the favourites for titles, yes," said Koeman. "They are still in the FA Cup and they are second in the league and they are really strong.

"It's not any more that Tottenham will fight against the big ones, that process they haven't finished but they are as strong as the rest of the big teams in the Premier League."

Everton fan Tony Bellew will take on David Haye in a heavyweight grudge match on Saturday, live on Sky Box Office, and Koeman revealed his players will be tuning in as part of their own pre-match preparation.

"We arranged that we can see the fight," he said. "He's (Bellew) an Evertonian and we will support him! Let's hope he can win. That's Saturday and then we have a big game on Sunday!"
