Everton manager Roberto Martinez hopes to welcome back Tom Cleverley from his ankle ligament problem in six to eight weeks.

The midfielder, who joined from Manchester United in the summer, suffered the injury during the 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on August 29.

Martinez told the club website: "With that sort of injury, ligament damage, you can normally expect a period of six to eight weeks.

"Knowing Tom and how fit and strong he is, maybe we are looking at the six-week period rather than the eight-week period. It's along those lines. He's a strong boy and hopefully he'll be back quicker than any medical report will say."

And Martinez also revealed former Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson has returned to full training following six months out with a metatarsal injury.

He said: "Darron is doing really well. It's been good for him to increase his physical levels and he has been involved in 10 v 10s. That's really positive."
