It is understood that Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett and Hibernian boss Alan Stubbs feature on the shortlist for the vacant managerial position at Reading.
The Sky Bet Championship club are compiling the shortlist following their decision to dismiss Steve Clarke on Friday.
Former Burton Albion boss Rowett, 41, has been in charge of the Blues since October 2014 and his side are currently one point above Reading in the table, while Stubbs, 44, has managed Hibs since June 2014 and has guided them into second place in the Scottish Championship this term, three points behind Rangers.
According to Sky sources, the club's Thai owners would favour a name with status within the game, although there was no official comment from the club on Sunday afternoon.
It is also understood that former Leicester City manager and bookmakers' favourite Nigel Pearson has proved too expensive.
Clarke was sacked after Reading's 1-0 home defeat to QPR last Thursday which extended the team's poor run to just one win in eight games.
One man who has already expressed an interest in the job is former Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer.
