Brian McDermott is to take charge at Reading for the second time

Sky sources report that Reading are to announce Brian McDermott as their new manager on Thursday.

The 54-year-old will be returning for a second spell with the Royals, having led them to the Championship title in 2012.

However, he was fired in March 2013, before having a spell in charge of Leeds and then working as a scout for Arsenal.

Reading lost 2-1 at Hull in the Championship on Wednesday night,

The Royals have been looking for a new boss since sacking Steve Clarke in the wake of a 1-0 home defeat to QPR at the start of December.

They have slipped to 13th in the Championship, ahead of the visit of Blackburn on Sunday afternoon, having suffered two more losses since Clarke departed, including a painful 2-1 defeat to a late goal at Hull on Wednesday night.

McDermott has been in talks with the club over the last week and an official announcement is expected this morning ahead of a press conference at 2pm this afternoon.

McDermott previously took charge of Reading for 169 games between 2009 and 2013, winning 76, drawing 43 and losing 50.
