Reading manager Jaap Stam is hoping to sign defender Tyler Blackett from Manchester United.

Stam has been looking to strengthen his defence since arriving at Reading earlier this summer and the club finally concluded the transfer of Liam Moore from Leicester on Saturday.

Blackett, who made 12 appearances in all competitions for United under Louis van Gaal two seasons ago, has been informed he is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old spent four months on loan with Scottish champions Celtic during the last campaign.

"We're still looking for a couple of signings. I know Tyler, not personally, but I know what he can do - what type of player he is, the way he can play," Stam told Get Reading.

"But I don't know yet if it's going to happen. We've shown our interest but I don't know if we will succeed getting him to the club."
