Paul Clement and Steve Cotterill are two of the names being considered by Reading to replace Jaap Stam as manager, Sky Sports News understands.

Marcel Keizer, the former Ajax manager who left the Dutch side in December, is also being considered following Stam's departure on Wednesday.

Clement's cause is understood to be helped by the fact that Reading chief executive Ron Gourlay is a fan of the 46-year-old, having worked with him at Chelsea.

Steve Cotterill took over from Harry Redknapp as Birmingham manager in September

Stam left Reading with the club in 20th place in the Championship and just three points above the relegation zone.

The Dutchman led the Royals to the play-off final last season, and they only missed out on a place in the Premier League after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Huddersfield.
