John O'Shea looks set to join Reading after spending seven years at Sunderland.

Sky Sports News understands the 37-year defender has agreed a deal with the Championship club.

The former Manchester United player made 40 appearances for Sunderland last season, but could not prevent the Championship club being relegated for the second year in a row.

O'Shea said he had had no contact with the Black Cats with whom he signed a one-year extension last summer.

He has indicated that he wanted to continue playing for another season, and also said he wishes to consider coaching and management in the long-term.
