Michael Eisner will complete his purchase of Portsmouth before the start of the EFL season, according to Sky sources.
The sale of the club to Eisner's Tornante Investment group was approved by the Portsmouth Supporters' Trust in May.
Eisner, whose net worth was summarised at $1bn by Forbes magazine in 2015, will pay £5.67m for the Sky Bet League One club.
The former Walt Disney chief executive has previously acquired MLB team, Anaheim Angels, and created NHL side, Anaheim Ducks.
Portsmouth, who won the League Two title last season, will begin the new campaign against Rochdale at Fratton Park on Saturday.
The south-coast club became the first team in Premier League history to enter administration in 2010 as they began their slide down to the Football League's bottom tier.
They entered administration once again in 2012 and exited a year later with the club in League Two, but have since been under fan ownership.
