Mauricio Pochettino had to quickly correct himself in his news conference when asked about the future of Harry Kane

Mauricio Pochettino says Harry Kane will not leave Tottenham, despite reports linking the striker with a move to Real Madrid.

A report in the Daily Telegraph on Friday suggested Real were monitoring Kane as a possible summer signing should Cristiano Ronaldo leave the Bernabeu.

The path from Spurs to Real is well-worn, with Luka Modric and Gareth Bale leaving north London for the Spanish giants in recent years, but Pochettino is confident Kane will not be following them.

"Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in Europe or in the world. It would not surprise me if big clubs are interested in him," said Pochettino ahead of his side's FA Cup encounter with Leicester.

"The good thing is Harry wants to stay with us. Sometimes a manager can say a player is not for sale but if he wants to leave there are a lot of examples when it happens.

"In this case the good thing is Tottenham do not want to sell him and Harry Kane wants to stay."

Pochettino was less candid on the future of Saido Berahino, who has been reportedly linked with a move to Spurs this month following the club's failed bids for the West Brom striker in the summer.

Sky sources understand five clubs - including Stoke City - are interested in signing the 22-year-old before the window closes, but Pochettino refused to confirm if Spurs were one of the other four.

"Nothing has changed since the summer. No news," he added.
