Matt Le Tissier admits he is in awe of Dele Alli after his wonder goal against Crystal Palace.
The Tottenham youngster showed "sublime skill" by taking a touch in mid-air before flicking the ball over his head and volleying home from the edge of the box in a 3-1 win at Selhurst Park.
Soccer Saturday pundit Le Tissier, who was known for scoring superb solo efforts during his time at Southampton, believes it is undoubtedly a contender for goal of the season.
"It was pretty special," he told Sky Sports Now. "It's not very often a goal on Soccer Saturday gets a massive round of applause from all the pundits.
"When we all saw it, it was a spontaneous 'oh my goodness'. It was brilliant skill and the fact he has the confidence to even try that is fantastic.
"That's proper talent - it's not something that you practice on the training ground. It's something that happens very instinctively.
"You see where your first touch goes, instinctively know the defender is going to be there, you can flick it over your head, you can spin, and it was a sublime bit of skill.
"Rightfully, it is one of the contenders for goal of the season."
Alli's goal helped Tottenham to a second successive Premier League win, which solidified their place in the top four.
And Le Tissier believes they have to be considered title contenders along with league leaders Leicester, Arsenal and Manchester City.
"After 23 games, if you're within five points of the top, then it has to be realistic," he said.
"They've lost very few matches, are playing good stuff, and are very solid. They have a proper centre-back pairing and are looking very good at the moment."
