A former Tottenham Hotspur youth player who was left brain damaged after suffering a heart attack while playing has received a pay-out believed to be in the region of £7m.
Radwan Hamad was just 17 when the incident happened in 2006. He is now unable to live independently or work.
The High Court found last year that the club were 70 per cent responsible and the cardiologist, Dr Peter Mills, was 30 per cent responsible.
Hamad's solicitor said tests on her client had come back with abnormal results, but specialists told Hamad's parents that there was nothing to worry about with his health. He collapsed and went into cardiac arrest on the pitch 11 months later.
The club said on Tuesday it regrets that a former employee was found to be remiss in their duties and it hopes the judgement will now secure Radwan the best possible treatment and care.
Spurs will not pay the fee directly. Their portion will be covered by sports specialists previously employed by Tottenham, who have agreed to compensate the club.
