Danny Rose hopes the tears after losing out on the Premier League title can inspire a Champions League turnaround against Monaco.
The Spurs and England left-back has revealed the emotional impact on some of his club team-mates after drawing against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season meant Leicester City were crowned English champions.
Despite qualifying for the Champions League, Mauricio Pochettino's side are now close to an early exit from Group E and need to beat Monaco at the Stade Louis II on Tuesday in order to keep hopes of progression to the knockout stages alive.
Spurs lie four points behind group leaders Monaco and two adrift of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, but Rose has urged his team-mates to recapture the heartbreak of last season in a bid to inspire them in Europe.
"The feeling after the Chelsea game last season is one that I never want to feel again," Rose said.
"There were people upset, crying in the changing room after that game. It's a feeling that we never want to feel again as a football club.
"I hope everyone has learned from that and we are going to try and push on this season.
"If we don't win, it looks like we are out of the Champions League. We have worked so hard for years and years to get this opportunity.
"We know if we don't win on Tuesday then we are more or less out of the competition so the manager will put out a strong team, I am sure, and we will go out to win that and then again on Saturday against Chelsea."
Rose's position in Pochettino's starting line-up came under question when the club signed left-back Ben Davies from Swansea in 2014, but handed Rose a new contract shortly after.
"I remember what people used to say about me a few years ago - there was a lot of negative comments about me, even when I signed my contract before last," Rose said.
"It wasn't nice but I feel as if I've got a strong character. I tried not to dwell on it too much.
"I have got a great small circle around me in terms of family and close friends and they have helped me massively to try and turn my form around from what it was a few years ago.
"Also the manager coming in and putting his arm around me - giving me confidence and making me feel I could be one of the best in this league and in Europe.
"I don't want to blow my own trumpet but I feel as if I am playing well. I owe my team-mates, my manager, my chairman and everyone at this football club for how I am playing now and how I played last season and how I played the season before that."
Although Rose is expected to start against Monaco with Davies out injured, the England international will miss the trip to Chelsea on Saturday due to suspension.
"I'm gutted," Rose said. "I was aware that I was on four bookings before we played Arsenal and I tried my best not to get booked in that game.
"I'm kicking myself because it was so unnecessary and yeah that was the first fixture I looked out for in the summer and I am gutted that I am going to miss it.
"But I'll be there, either travelling with the team or in with the fans, I'll make sure I am there to support the guys."
