Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld has suffered another injury setback in the form of a minor back problem.

The 27-year-old Belgium centre-back recently returned from two-month spell out with a knee injury.

Alderweireld made his first start since October in the defeat at Manchester United on December 11 and played 90 minutes against Hull in midweek.

But he was left out of Spurs' match-day squad for the 2-1 victory over Burnley on Sunday.

Prior to kick-off, manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "He's not injured, he got a problem in the last training session in his back.

"It's not a big issue, it's only a small problem."

Alderweireld is currently preparing to negotiate a new contract at White Hart Lane and recently insisted there are no issues on that front between him and the club.

The defender joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in 2015 for £11.5million and has made 62 appearances for the club.
