Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says he is not too disheartened by their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend and backed his side to learn from the disappointing performance.
Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were critical of Spurs' display, accusing them of being 'timid' when facing the Premier League's big-hitters.
But Pochettino is refusing to panic and feels they have become mentally tougher in recent seasons.
"In the way we lost against Liverpool, it is true we did not compete. Against Liverpool we lost and we couldn't recognise Tottenham of the last few seasons," he told Sky Sports News HQ.
"I am more motivated now than before [we played] Liverpool. I am not disappointed or frustrated. The thing is to take the positives and try to improve.
"It is important to realise why [things go wrong] and use that for the future."
Pochettino also praised the progress made by midfielder Harry Winks, who signed a new contract on Tuesday that will see him remain at the club until 2022.
The 21-year-old has played in 25 games in all competitions this season, including two starts in the Champions League, as Tottenham continue their policy of offering long-term deals to both established performers and promising youngsters.
"He has improved a lot from last season. We are always talking about developing young players and the need [for them] to be patient, work hard and be ready when the manager gives them the opportunity to play," added the Argentine.
"After the pre-season he started to show that he is ready to play more. He is starting to show his quality and we show too that we believe in him."
