Tarrico admits Italian ambition

MAURICIO TARICCO has revealed his desire to play in Italian football once his Tottenham Hotspur career is over.

The ex-Ipswich Town defender has two years remaining on his present contract, and has resigned himself to the fact that the club may not wish to offer him a new deal when it expires.

The 30-year-old Argentine has failed to bed down a regular starting berth under Glenn Hoddle, although his commitment and passion have made him a fan favourite at White Hart Lane.

Taricco insists he wants to leave North London with some silverware but said he wants to head for Sardinia, his father's home town, at the end of his Premiership tenure instead of returning to his homeland.

"If things are going well for me at Tottenham, I may not want to leave and will stay in England for longer," said the South American.

"But the club may not want me, in which case, I would like to play in Italy.

"I proved myself in Argentina and I feel I have proved myself at the top in England, so it would be nice to test myself in Italy and see if I could do it there.

"My dream is to win something with Spurs before I leave."
