Assou-Ekotto out for Spurs

Benoit Assou-Ekotto will miss the next eight weeks of Spurs' push for cup glory.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto will miss the next eight weeks of Tottenham Hotspur's push for cup glory.

The full-back has not played for Spurs since the 2-1 defeat against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on 10th February.

He has been suffering with a knee injury and has now undergone an operation to fix the problem.

Spurs boss Martin Jol confirmed Assou-Ekotto will be out for around two months, meaning he faces a battle to play again this season.

"Benoit has had a successful cartilage operation and will be out for another seven or eight weeks," said Jol.

Since moving to White Hart Lane last summer from Lens, Assou-Ekotto has made 25 appearances for the club, including 16 in the Premiership.

But he will now sit out Spurs' quest for honours, with the club facing Braga in the first leg of their last 16 Uefa Cup tie on Thursday and Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

Assou-Ekotto's absence will give South Korea international Lee Young-pyo the chance to establish himself at left-back.
