Tottenham have left Emmanuel Adebayor out of their squads for this season's Europa League and the Premier League as the Togo striker remains in limbo in north London.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City forward, who does not have a squad number and has been training with Spurs' development squad this season, has not started a game for manager Mauricio Pochettino since the 1-0 win over Sheffield United in the Capital One Cup in January.

He was expected to leave White Hart Lane this summer having been omitted from Pochettino's first-teams plans for the new season, but having pulled out of a move to Aston Villa earlier in the transfer window, he then saw a deadline-day switch to West Ham fail to materialise.

It is understood Tottenham were happy for him to leave and offered to pay off a portion of the final year of his contract - which is worth £5m - but Adebayor rejected their proposal.

That leaves him with the prospect of not playing at all this season despite Harry Kane being the club's only other recognised traditional striker.

In fact Kane is the only forward to appear in the 23-man Tottenham squad posted on UEFA's website on Thursday.
