Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has not been given two games to save his job, according to Sky sources.

Reports had suggested that a recent meeting in the United States of top Aston Villa officials, including owner Randy Lerner, had resulted in an ultimatum being issued to Sherwood.

However, it is understood that the gathering had been scheduled for weeks and was not arranged to discuss the manager's future.

Sherwood was invited to attend but chose not to, as Villa prepare to travel to London this weekend to face Chelsea.

While Sherwood's future was not discussed at the meeting, Villa's poor recent results were.

One of the biggest issues for Lerner is thought to be recruitment, with questions being asked of the players brought in since the end of last season.

Villa are currently 18th the Premier League, with just four points from nine games. Their only victory of the season came at Bournemouth on the opening day.
