Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has revealed the club have decided against adding former Manchester United assistant coach Steve Round to their coaching staff.

Garde has been on the hunt to fill a number of coaching positions since he was denied the chance to speak to his former assistants at Lyon, Bruno Genesio and Gerald Baticle, because they still work for the French Ligue 1 club.

Round, who worked alongside David Moyes at Everton and United, held talks with Villa in the summer while Tim Sherwood was still in charge.

Garde confirmed he spoke to Round after he was appointed this month but has brought in Reginald Ray as his assistant and insists he is now content with what he has.

"I am happy at the moment with my staff," said Garde. "I have brought with me Reginald Ray and Robert Duverne. I know Steve Round has been linked with the club but probably before I came here.

"The club had a chat before I was linked then they told me they'd had this chat. I said it was no problem and I wanted to be polite.

"I didn't know Steve personally but I know his career so it was nice to have a chat with him but that was it."

Round has been out of work since leaving a part-time role with Derby County in the summer.

It was reported in the summer that he also turned down the chance to become Steve McClaren's assistant at Newcastle, who Round worked with at Derby from January to June in 2015.
