Remi Garde says some of his players may be "a little bit disturbed or fragile" after seeing bottom side Aston Villa lose 3-2 at home to Watford.
Villa are without a win in the Premier League since the opening day of the season, and have a joint-record low of five points from 14 games.
Garde has only been in charge for three of those games, but the Frenchman said there could be a confidence crisis at the club when asked by Sky Sports if belief was the issue.
"Yes, it could be [a confidence crisis]. It's difficult because the crowd is behind us but sometimes some of my players seem to be a little bit disturbed or fragile regarding the demanding crowd," he said.
"We have to deal with that. We need more confidence of course.
"You can say it's a crisis, you can say we're in trouble. But I think the defeat is a bit severe, we should have drawn at least, but we haven't.
"We have to work and still believe because you never know in football. Maybe things will turn."
Despite the defeat, Garde was pleased with the offensive performance of his players, and instead pinpointed defensive errors as the reason for Villa's downfall.
He said: "I think in the first half we played quite good football. Unfortunately we never had the chance to lead.
"I was pleased by the way we played in the first half, especially offensively, but defensively we were poor.
"We conceded a poor goal, the second one was silly, and the third killed the game.
"I'm disappointed for the players because I saw very committed players. The way we played football pleased me, the result not."
