Aston Villa are closing in on the loan signing of Bordeaux defender Lamine Sane, according to Sky sources.
Remi Garde is keen to strengthen his squad with Villa rooted to the foot of the Premier League table and Sky sources understand Sane will become the first signing of the Frenchman's reign at the club.
Sane is expected to join Villa on loan until the end of the season having fallen out of favour under Bordeaux manager Willy Sagnol.
The 28-year-old began his career in French amateur football before joining Bordeaux in 2009 and has since played over 190 times for the club.
He has featured just 11 times this season - picking up six yellow cards - and will challenge Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott, Ciaran Clarke and Jores Okore for a starting spot at Villa.
