Aston Villa are in advanced negotiations with Barnsley over deals for Conor Hourihane and James Bree, according to Sky Sources.
Midfielder Hourihane and defender Bree are out of contract in the summer and it is thought the deal for Hourihane is closer to completion.
Villa are close to agreeing terms, although there are still some significant details to be agreed.
The situation has been complicated by the ill-health of Barnsley's owner Patrick Cryne, we understand.
Steve Bruce is hopeful that deals can be done quickly in order to stave off interest from clubs in the Premier League, as 19-year-old Bree has reportedly been targeted by Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.
Hourihane joined Barnsley in 2014 and became club captain the following year. The 25-year-old has scored six goals in 28 appearances this season.
Bree made his Barnsley debut in 2014 and has impressed at full-back this season with the Tykes just four points off the play-off places.
