Villa hunt Crespo

O'Neill eyes Spanish starlet

Aston Villa are tracking Sevilla starlet Jose Angel Crespo. Martin O'Neill's side are desperately short of options at right-back - which has seen the duties shared between Olof Mellberg and Craig Gardner, neither of whom are natural full backs. Porto's Jose Bosingwa is known to interest O'Neill and now he is also looking at his fellow Iberian Crespo. The 20-year-old is currently on the fringes of the first-team at the Sanchez Pizjuan, but he has impressed when given his chance in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Impressed

He has impressed Villa scouts in recent months and they are believed to have recommended a move, but they could face difficulty in landing him. French outfit Monaco are also keen, but following Antonio Puerta's death Crespo is regarded as Daniel Alves's understudy as Andres Hinkel seems certain leave in the coming weeks. Crespo, who can also play at left-back, is currently contracted to Sevilla until 2010 and it is likely to require a hefty offer to persuade them to part with one of their brightest prospects.
