Aston Villa duo Jack Grealish and Carles Gil have returned to training at the club, but are unlikely to play against Manchester United - live on Sky Sports - on Friday night.

Grealish picked up a hamstring injury during Villa's pre-season tour of Portugal and missed the opening day victory against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Fellow midfielder Gil did play in pre-season friendlies against Fulham and Sporting Braga before he suffered an ankle injury in a similar match against Swindon.

The former Valencia player has since missed games against Walsall, Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Villa boss Tim Sherwood is wary of bringing them back too soon because of the nature of their injuries, and has hinted they duo will not take part in the United match.

"Jack and Carles are still out injured," Sherwood said.

"Once we get everyone fit and fighting for places, it gives us a lot of options to play different ways, which will be crucial.
