Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko believes Jonjo Shelvey has filled the hole left by Yohan Cabaye's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2014.

Shelvey has hit the ground running on Tyneside, playing a crucial role in victories over West Brom and West Ham which has elevated Newcastle out of the relegation zone.

Sissoko says the former Swansea and Liverpool midfielder has a similar style to Cabaye, who has since joined Crystal Palace, and is looking forward to seeing him further improve Steve McClaren's side.

"There have been some hard days for us but I really believe that two years after Yohan left, Jonjo is the right replacement," said Sissoko.

"Jonjo, like Yohan, is a very good player. He reads the game so easily and delivers great balls. For me, he is the same style as Yohan and has the same qualities."
