Newcastle have turned down a bid from Al Jazira for midfielder Cheick Tiote, according to Sky sources.
We understand the Abu Dhabi side are willing to hand the 31-year-old a multi-million-pound three-year deal, but their offer hasn't matched Newcastle's valuation of the midfielder.
Tiote sat out Tuesday's friendly at Southend as a result of the interest from the Middle East, but he's now back in training with the Magpies.
Newcastle have also knocked back a bid from Lazio for winger Florian Thauvin.
Sky sources understand that, as in the case of Tiote, Newcastle are willing to sell if their valuation is met, but the bid from the Italian club fell well short.
Thauvin arrived from Marseille last summer for £13m but has failed to settle in England.
