Newcastle forward Aleksandar Mitrovic insists he is calmer on the pitch this season after doing "stupid things" last year.
An injury to top-scorer Dwight Gayle means Mitrovic is set to lead the line for Newcastle when they travel to Brighton in a top-of-the-table Sky Bet Championship clash, live on Sky Sports on Tuesday night.
The Serbia international was sent off twice in the Premier League last season, but says Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has helped to change his mentality.
"I think now I am different because this season I am more calm on the pitch," he told Sky Sports News HQ. "I was aggressive and was sent off last season.
"Last season I did stupid things but this year I am more calm."
Gayle, who is currently the joint-top scorer in the Championship with 20 goals, suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury during Newcastle's 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
He will not be available for the trip to Brighton and Mitrovic, who has scored four times in eight starts, says he is ready to make the most of his opportunity.
"I knew my chance would come one time this season," he added. "The chance has come now so I will try to use it.
"I was part of the team that got relegated last year so I feel responsible to try to fix this. I am not the guy who makes mistakes and runs.
"I will try to fix it and help the team to get back to the Premier League, where we should be.
"Goals are something I want to do. I hope I will score goals in the next few games, important goals, and then I will be happy."
