Rafa Benitez missed Newcastle's Premier League trip as he continues to recovers from an operation.
The club had arranged to put on a helicopter to fly him to and from his home in Merseyside following hernia surgery, but the Spaniard, who had been treated for an infection, felt too unwell to make the trip to South Wales on Sunday morning.
The 57-year-old was unable to attend Newcastle's training ground this past week because of discomfort in his groin which led to his stay in hospital.
Assistant manager Francisco de Miguel 'Paco' Moreno took the club's pre-match press conference and led the Magpies from the dugout.
Newcastle fans chanted Benitez's name during the game at the Liberty Stadium.
