Emmanuel Riviere is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks after Newcastle manager Steve McClaren revealed that the striker may need surgery.

The French striker sustained the knee injury while during the pre-season trip to the United States in July.

McClaren told The Chronicle: "Manu Riviere's knee was painful after training. So he might have to have surgery. We are investigating that."

There is better news regarding Paul Dummett and Remy Cabella, who will return to training this week following injuries.

However, neither are likely to be available for Saturday’s trip to Swansea.
