Joe Hart says Manchester City 'not good enough' despite Gladbach win

Joe Hart says Manchester City's win at Borussia Monchengladbach should not paper over the cracks of another below-par performance.

Hart saved a penalty and denied the Germans twice more early in the game as City came from a goal down to win 2-1 and take their first Champions League points of the season.

The comeback spared Manuel Pellegrini's side a fourth defeat in five games, but their goalkeeper warned improvement is needed before this weekend's return to Premier League action against Newcastle.

He said: "We did it the hard way, as our fans know that's how we're doing things at the moment. It wasn't really good enough. We gave far too many chances to them.

"The win is important and we really need to improve, but as badly as we played I think we still deserved to win.

"We need to get back to the first five games of the Premier League, where we were more of a balanced team. We were a bit imbalanced.

"But the season is a long season, so you have got different stages. Hopefully that will put us in a good place for the Newcastle game."

Hart's display in Germany earned praise from Pellegrini, who did not risk his first-choice keeper for Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Tottenham.

"I am enjoying playing," Hart said. "I was gutted to concede the goal but they stopped attacking after that. I didn't touch the ball after the goal and luckily we got the two goals."
