Sergio Aguero is hoping to make his return from injury for Manchester City in their Premier League clash with Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Argentine has been sidelined since tearing his hamstring during a World Cup qualifying loss to Ecuador on October 9.

The 27-year-old returned to full training this week and is hopeful of being passed fit to play his first game for the league leaders since scoring five goals against Newcastle United last month.

"I do hope I can play in this game," Aguero told the club's official website ahead of the game on Sky Sports.

"I'm doing everything in my power to get to the match in top condition.

"It's been a frustrating time. Obviously the game against Newcastle was special because it's not every week you get to score five goals in one game.

"The only other occasion I remember scoring five in a single match was when I was 12.

Aguero also praised former team-mate and now Liverpool midfielder James Milner, who is hoping to recover from his own hamstring injury in time to face his old club for the first time.

"I hope he is able to recover. He's a great player though it will be odd to see him wearing another team's colours," Aguero said.

Daniel Sturridge claims he is "fit and ready to go" for Liverpool.

"He is a true professional and I'm sure he's going to come against us with everything he's got."

Aguero isn't the only striker targeting a return on Saturday with Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge in contention to play his first game for the Reds since the drawn Merseyside derby on October 4.
