Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says it is too early to say whether Joe Hart will have to miss any time after the goalkeeper had to be substituted against Juventus.

The England international was forced off with a hamstring problem towards the end of Wednesday's 1-0 Champions League defeat in Turin.

And Pellegrini says they will have to wait until Thursday before the full extent of the injury can be assessed.

Moments after making a fine save to deny Alvaro Morata, Hart left the field holding the top of his leg and was replaced by Willy Caballero.

And Pellegrini said after the match: "It is impossible to know how serious his injury is at this point.

"He has a problem with his hamstring and has had a problem in his back for the past week. Tomorrow [Thursday] we will see, with the doctor, what is the problem with Joe.

"We hope we don't lose him but for if for some reason he cannot play I have trust in Willy Caballero."

Regarding other injured members of his squad, Pellegrini had bad news regarding captain Vincent Kompany, who will definitely sit out Southampton's visit on Saturday, but he was a little more optimistic about David Silva.

"Vincent Kompany has no chance to play this week," said the manager. "He is not running yet and will need at least two weeks more.

"David improved a little bit more the last two days. He's working with the physio in Manchester. We will see. We don't have many days until Saturday but, when we arrive in Manchester, we will have a look."
