Manchester City targeting quadruple, says Joe Hart

Joe Hart says Manchester City will not let up in their pursuit of a historic quadruple this season.

City currently sit third in the Premier League table and have already booked their place in the Champions League last-16 as well as the Capital One Cup semi-finals.

With their FA Cup campaign to begin in January, City's hopes of claiming a clean sweep of the trophies remains a possibility.

When asked what would constitute a successful season for City, Hart told Sky Sports News HQ: "If we win all the trophies. We can't say we want to lose that one or we accept we are going to lose then. We have to go out to win all four and see what happens."

City have never made it to the Champions League quarter-final stage and have tasted defeat to Barcelona in the round of 16 during the previous two seasons.

They currently sit second in Group D - two points behind Juventus - and will need to beat Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday to stand any chance of topping the group.

A victory over the German side, coupled with a defeat for Juventus at Sevilla, would see City win the group and avoid a potentially tougher draw in the first knockout round.

Hart is unconcerned by criticism of City's record in Europe's elite competition and feels they are well placed to claim the club's first ever Champions League crown.

"We are ambitious as a team, as a club and as individuals. We want to do well in the Champions League and I have always defended us from what people say, I don't care what people say about Manchester City," the England international added.

"We know where we are, we've been here a long time and we know what we are trying to achieve. We want to do well for the club and we want to do well for each other."

City have also received criticism for the lack of talent emerging from their academy since the club was takeover by Abu Dhabi United Group Investment and Development Limited in 2008.

However, Hart feels any aspiring player in the City academy must show they can improve the first-team squad.

"People have to appreciate we have come to a point and to a level where we are trying to win everything. So, the fairy tale of bringing someone who lives next door to the training ground through - we all want to see it - but you have to be realistic," Hart said.

"The main thing is that the first-team does well, but we have a great set up now. It will only be a matter of time that players will start flowing from our academy, but they have got to be better than what we've got.

"If you're not better than what we've got, you cannot expect to come through. They are the standards being set and that is what they have got to aspire to."
