Manuel Pellegrini expressed his frustration after Man City's defeat to Everton

Manuel Pellegrini was left unhappy with a couple of key decisions after Manchester City were beaten 2-1 by Everton in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final.

The City manager was angry that Everton's first goal was not ruled out for offside and also that Jesus Navas did not win a penalty in the second half.

The Spaniard went down in the box under a challenge from Kevin Mirallas in the 70th minute, but play continued.

"It's a foul inside the box," Pellegrini told Sky Sports. "He didn't touch the ball, he touched the legs of Jesus Navas, it's a clear penalty.

"We didn't deserve to lose. At the end of the first half they scored a goal that was absolutely offside, we should have had a clear penalty and we had two clear chances to score."

"It was offside," said Pellegrini. "He made the movement and participated in play. It's unbelievable that the referee or linesman didn't see it was offside.

"If you take that with the clear penalty on Navas, that's two very important actions that can change the cup."

Navas scored the equaliser for City in the 76th minute but Everton replied shortly afterwards through Lukaku to ensure they take a narrow lead to the Etihad for the return leg on January 27.

"It was important not to concede another goal," said Pellegrini. "This is a score we can manage if we play in the way we normally do at home."
