Raheem Sterling could be out of action for the rest of the season but Manchester City team-mate Joe Hart may be back in a fortnight.

Sterling suffered a groin injury and Hart picked up a calf problem in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, when boss Manuel Pellegrini said the England pair were both looking at a month out.

But Sky Sports News HQ understands Sterling's injury is more serious, and he could be on sidelined for between six and eight weeks.

That could mean he does not play for the club again this season if City fail to make the Champions League final, which does not take place until May 28.

Hart's issue is less serious and he could be back in two weeks' time, with the Champions League quarter-final first leg with Paris Saint-Germain on April 6 a possible target.

England will be monitoring the situation closely as their preparations for Euro 2016 continue.

The squad for the tournament will be announced on May 12, and boss Roy Hodgson has until May 31 to submit to UEFA his final 23-man list.
